The magic of creative mojo

The magic of creative mojo

I’m currently in some kind of blissful creative flow, which I’m very happy about of course! But I only know this because I’ve emerged from what I’ve now realised was a period of creative burnout. In recent months, I thought that I may have lost my mojo. But, in reality, I was just really really tired!

Even though I kept creating pieces I was happy with, the process felt like wading through mud. I didn’t even realise that I was burnt out. Until I started feeling normal again.

But I’m thrilled that I feel like I have my mojo back. And, as a result, the studio has been a flurry of colour, painting, sketching, music and fun.

I’ve also finally had the energy to add artwork to the website so that it's actually available for purchase, with more coming in the weeks ahead.

In other news, here’s what I’ve been …

Watching: Deadloch on Prime. It’s this Aussie humour at its best. Be warned: that means a lot of swearing so certainly don’t watch this with kids around! It’s been described as “A feminist noir comedy set against a bucolic backdrop with a rising body count.” And it’s hilarious. If you can cope with the profanity!

Looking forward to: The Affordable Art Fair in Sydney. It’s always fantastic to meet fellow artists and galleries. Such a great place for inspiration, connection and networking. And a glass of wine at the end of the day …

Chatting to: Anthony McCarten. It’s not every day that you get to interview a four-time Academy Award nominated writer. He wrote the screenplays for Bohemian Rhapsody, The Theory of Everything, The Two Popes and more. He’ll be on an episode of my podcast in a couple of weeks. If you don’t want to miss out, do consider subscribing.

Listening to: The audiobook of Unscripted: 'The real-life Succession' Financial Times by James B. Stewart and Rachel Abrams. Now that I'm suffering withdrawal since the finale of the TV series Succession, I've turned to learning about the real thing. This is the story of Sumner Redstone, his family and the battle to save his company.

Loving: My little cat Rocky has a YouTube channel called “Productive Rocky” where he helps you … well .. stay productive .. with lofi playlists that you can play in the background while you work. It follows the Pomodoro method where you focus for 25 minutes and then have a 5 minute break. There is a little bell that helps you keep track! Currently, there is a two-hour session available, which is great for serious focused work, with more playlists to come.
